If you pack in a box of cut fruits or a bottle of fruit juice thinking you are getting a healthy dose of energy and nutrients from it, you might not be doing the healthiest thing. Nutritionist Dr Neha Sanwalka tells us why this isn’t a good practice.
Why is storing cut fruits bad?
Fruits are rich sources of vitamin C. Vitamin C gets degraded, i.e. it gets destroyed on exposure to light reducing the nutrient content and benefits of the fruit. Hence, cut fruits should be consumed immediately. Read how to cut fruits the right way.
Is storing fruit juices also unhealthy?
The same rule applies to fruit juices as well. They should be consumed as soon as one blends them or within the first 10 minutes.
If required, how should they be stored?
If needed, cut fruits should be stored in airtight containers, in a cool place with minimal light like in the refrigerator. It is best to avoid storing fruit juice but if at all they need to be stored, it should be in airtight, plastic bottles in the fridge. Should you drink water after eating fruits? Click to know.
